Senator Ali Ndume told BBC Hausa that a “repentant” Boko Haram fighter released by the Buhari admin has killed his father, robbed his wealth & disappeared [possibly back to BH]. He claimed that most released fighters go back to BH and that his constituents reject the initiative.
The BBC interviewed several victims, all of whom opposed the program. A woman whose husband was killed in her presence said her 4 kids are still out of school and govt has done nothing to help her. She said it’s unfair to release the killers of her husband while she’s suffering.
I think the Buhari needs to reconsider its policy on “repentant” BH members. Govt needs to listen to Nigerians especially victims. If the essence of reintegrating them is to attain peace, community members must be carried along. Otherwise, the program will be counterproductive.
