Immunohistochemistry: CK7, PAX-8
This is an example of a metastatic carcinoma to the umbilicus (the favoured diagnosis was HG serous carcinoma) aka Sister Mary Joseph nodule.

No clinical pictures were available but the example is from the below referenced paper (with a case report)

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
This patient presented with a hard mass in the umbilicus with no previous history of cancer.

A Sister Mary Jospeh nodule is an (eponymous) name, a sign and is often caused by a metstatic abdominal cancer (Gyn+GI are most common, but be others).

So just some history:

Sister Mary Jospeh (SMJ) was a talented surgical assistant that noticed these nodules and were associated with widespread metastatic tumours in the abdomen. She worked with Dr W Mayo, and he published it in 1928, called it “pants button umbilicus”. 1/2
It wasn’t called a Sister Mary Joseph nodule till 1949 (10 years after her death) in Baileys surgical text book. The name stuck.

Below is a good article for those interested. If you can access the full article it’s a good read
