A Sister Mary Jospeh nodule is an (eponymous) name, a sign and is often caused by a metstatic abdominal cancer (Gyn+GI are most common, but be others).

Sister Mary Jospeh (SMJ) was a talented surgical assistant that noticed these nodules and were associated with widespread metastatic tumours in the abdomen. She worked with Dr W Mayo, and he published it in 1928, called it “pants button umbilicus”. 1/2
