One simply can't overstate what a huge role Trump and DeVos coming out hard for reopening played in turning a lot of blue districts against it.

There were three really good and important stories in today's papers about the enormous challenges of remote learning. Here goes:
1) @tawnell on the huge troubles that the Jackson, Miss. schools (95 percent African-American) had in doing remote instruction in the spring: wsj.com/articles/remot…
"In late April the district allowed children who were passing before the shutdown to skip the last 2 months school and still receive an overall passing grade. Some students didn’t have internet access or parents available to help. Even some teachers couldn’t get online at home."

Meanwhile, another story in same paper on YMCA camps and day-care centers that have remained open: The "Y, to its surprise, has had few positive cases and no known outbreaks among its 1,000 locations and 40,000 children in care over the past three months." washingtonpost.com/health/2020/06…
