protect low paid employees was not acted on? Why do their lives and livelihoods matter less to you than your academic and institutional staff? Do you see their contribution as less important? Less worthy of acknowledgement? Their lives worthy of less security and recognition?

This decision speaks volumes about UAL's politics of reproducing a violent class structure which exists in the UK and reeks of a willingness to actively contribute to inequity within the institution. It has been well documented and reported to you the impact that the cleaners ...

have experienced at the hands of shifting multinationals: workload increases, patterns changing without consultation, zero-hour contracts, restrictions to travel to name just a few...

At a time where key workers, the majority of which are people of colour and low-paid migrants are being asked to risk their lives on the daily due to their disproportionate level of contact with public space/people - it is UAL’s ethical duty to recognise this.

This decision is shameful, exposing what UAL is really about. Actions really speak louder than words at this point, especially when even the cost has been proven to be neutral (i.e. SOAS 2017). What is UAL waiting for? What interest is this serving?

It is time to make a stand against outsourcing. If not now, when? This goes for further commitments to displacing people in Elephant and Castle. Where will the line be drawn outside yourselves and those in your image? When will you commit to care and accountability around ...

the organisation’s actions? Your statement’s are empty. I acknowledge that some points on your outlined plan have been mobilised. great - so why stop there, why not point 14? Until this happens alongside these other aims UAL cannot and should not ever call itself anti-racist....

This is not a position to dilute by endless rhetoric much like how we have seen the radical practices and politics of “care” to be.

Your hollow statements are rendered worthless by commitments which totally contradict them, effecting hundreds, maybe thousands of livelihoods and rights to living with dignity, safety and security when contributing their time and labour to what is a giant on the international

scene of Universities. As I express, this is an opportunity missed to bring your words into alignment, to lead on what is an overdue and outdated course of action that ethically recognises the labour that reproduces your “house”. It is reassuring to hear of United Voices of the

World’s recent landmark campaigns to bring racial discrimination cases to courts. It shows the clock is ticking. Accountability is coming. What side of this will UAL be on? Where will you be placing your weight and resource. Who are you protecting? Who’s lives matter?
