Welcome to Black August — a month dedicated to learning about Black revolutionaries and honoring their struggle against white supremacy, colonialism, capitalism, and imperialism. Today, we follow in the footsteps of Black radicals in the fight for liberation.

Just a year earlier, on August 7th, 1970, Jonathan Jackson was murdered in a quest to liberate the Soledad brothers, of which his brother, George, was a part.

Revolutionary moments such as the Watts Uprising, Haitian Revolution, Nat Turner Rebellion, Fugitive Slave Law Convention, and March on Washington all happened in August. Also, many revolutionaries such as Marcus Garvey and Fred Hampton were born in August.

There are many reasons to celebrate Black August and we can do so through discipline and sacrifice. We're continuing the Black August legacy by amplifying our history of resistance & creating spaces for Black people to come together in community to recharge the revolution.

Join us in collective community action this month. There are many ways to participate, from reading books to hosting a political education event or a book club as a community practice with other Black people. These too, are acts of resistance. Visit m4bl.org/black-august.
