When I was 22 years old, after reading Simon Kolawole and all the hope he gave me about Nigeria every Sunday for years, I texted him to thank him for making me believe in Nigeria, I told him I had so much hope. He replied me and it was my greatest joy lol.
Like this man was like my Sunday service, he was like a god to me and he replied my text message. I was screaming, it was like Trey Songz replying my tweet. I was so happy. I didn’t know I was being deceived.
This man deceived me, had me spend my early years believing in Nigeria, he was preaching shit to me, acting like a balanced commentator on public issues. He made me love Nigeria so much, gave me so much hope. I should have listened to my father and brother but I didn’t.
My father always warned me, but I chose to see Nigeria through Simon’s eye lol. I didn’t understand the Nigeria my father warned me about. By the time I understood what Simon was about, my pain was so much, too deep, I couldn’t bring myself to read a Nigerian newspaper.
I stopped buying newspapers because of him, stopped reading because of him. I read something’s he would write and I asked myself if this man was the man that was my idol? The man who made me believe? See ehn, it’s not the kind of thing that I can explain.
Simon Kolawole, Tolu Ogunlesi, Femi Adesina lol. The great deceivers. Social media freed me from that bondage sha, thank you social media.
See all these things Nigerian journalists do, the intellectual deception and manipulation of Nigerian minds, never standing firm on the truth, changing the goal post constantly on what is right, only God will judge them.
I have to add that social media freed me but also showed me a side of Nigerians I never knew. It made understand the people and the country, In a way that freed me of my hope and expectations.
