I asked @NicolaSturgeon and @JohnSwinney why poorest pupils’ results were downgraded so much more than the best well off. 
Both FM and DFM argued that had the results not been reduced from teachers’ assessments the most deprived pupils’ results would have been historically high and suggested they would not have been credible.
The most deprived pupils’ own teachers gave them 85.1% A-C.
The SQA reduced it to 69.9%.

The most well off pupils’ teachers gave them 91.5% A-C.

The SQA downgraded teachers’ assessment of their pupils by 15.2% for the most deprived pupils and 6.9% for the most wealthy pupils.
The process better fits the historical pattern. And @scotgov argue even after moderation it shows narrowing of attainment gap.
The question is whether teachers know best what their most deprived pupils are capable of.
