I had an unusually long lead time on the logo for Gleipnir. I was told about the license right away, as well as the fact that an anime adaption was in the works, and to keep that in mind while designing the logo. I sketched on it in my off hours for months. 1/6 
I had a few ideas, at one point I was going to make the text have a cartoonishly wet and meaty texture, with the unzipped skin around the bottom of the text, I don’t know who I showed that to that said “That’s brilliant, but disgusting, don’t do it.” 2/6
I settled on a dirty, beat up (like a well-loved stuffed animal) drawn texture on the text, with a zipper in the middle. I had visions of it being animated with the zipper opening in the credits or something. A bit obvious maybe, but a neat idea. 3/6
I needed relatively simple letterforms, but also needed total control to keep them balanced, since the zipper needed to be in the middle. Once I got the letters themselves built, I started printing them out and hand drawing in all the little bits to give it that grungy feel. 4/6
I ended up with a thick stack of tracing paper taped together that made the whole logo; then going in and auto tracing some parts and manually tracing others to end up with one of my personal favorites among logos I’ve done. 5/6
Eventually the anime came out and they went with…something else. This happens more often than not, unfortunately—for whatever reason. 6/6
