Good work from @JustJews focusing on Board of Deps demands on the Labour Party. Throughout a lot of their history (since 1760) the BoD has been criticised for its lack of representativeness and its closeness to the conservative British establishment
This has especially affected its anti-racist/anti-fascist work. In the 1930s it was attacked by working class Jews in the East End for complacency in response to Mosley's fascists, for telling Jews to NOT to oppose them on the streets (eg at Cable Street).
Just after WW2 they berated "43 Group" anti-fascists for their strong response to antisemitic groups. In the 1970s the BoD advised Jews to stay away from the Anti-Nazi League, a mass anti-fascist movement with wide support from MPs, trade unions, footballers, academics etc
In the 1980s, internal minutes from the BoD's Defence Committee show that it broke off all relations with the broad-based Ethnic Minorities Unit of the GLC because of a grant it gave to a Jewish group the BoD disagreed with, for a Jewish Cultural and Anti-Racist Project.
No doubt the BoD is overwhelmingly pro-Zionist today but until the late-1930s it was led by (right wing) anti-Zionists who didn't want a conflict between Jewish and British nationalism. In its history the BoD has been both anti-Zionist and pro-Zionist but consistently anti-Left.
More liberal and progressive members of the BoD have recently demanded the BoD speaks out against Israeli annexation plans. The BoD refuses to do so and claims it is staying neutral, but by not speaking out it tacitly supports Netanyahu and the status quo.
In the last 5 years the BoD was totally hostile to Corbyn-led labour and very forgiving to the party of the Hostile Environment and Windrush Scandal, with formal connections to antisemitic, anti-Roma, Islamophobic, homophobic parties especially in central and Eastern Europe. Why?
The Labour Party is a democratic party. Conference is its sovereign body. No Labour politician can make policy by unilaterally signing up to pledges from external organisations and treating that as policy. Many Jewish LP members do NOT see themselves as represented by the BoD.
