Mind you, this is a book hailed by the New York Times as "a haunting tapestry of interwoven stories that inform us... about the resentment-bred demons that are all too present in our society today." NPR called it resonant and important. Ibram X Kendi joined the author for a talk.
Ball was going to do a virtual discussion with a Tulane professor of geography African American studies. Students forced the university to cancel, and their comments on the subject are some of the most unhinged I have ever read. 
You'd be forgiven for thinking the students are just confused, and wrongly though the author was a Klansman. This isn't the case. They know exactly what the point-of-view is, and they think Tulane committed violence against the marginalized by greenlighting this event.
And it's not just random students. Here was the student government: "An apology is the first step in undoing the harm you have caused many members of the community, but is in no way the last."
Tulane caved and canceled the event. (Technically, it's indefinitely postponed, but LOL.) Perhaps my favorite comment: A graduate commented that he disagreed with the decision to cancel, and an admissions officer responded: "Cry about it."
