JUST IN: New Trump administration statement links pro-Kremlin Ukrainian Andrii DERKACH with an effort by the Russian government to interfere in the 2020 election to harm BIDEN.

This confirms what @NatashaBertrand and I reported last month: That Derkach has set off alarms among Democrats worried that he's seeding derogatory anti-Biden propaganda into ongoing GOP-led congressional investigations.

@NatashaBertrand WHAT'S CLEAR: Democrats will *hate* this statement because it appears to draw anequivalence between Russia's specific scheme re: Biden and China's general, public-facing policy pressure.

Ds hated the last statement for the same reason.

-The 4 Ds in the Gang of Eight issued a letter last month demanding more details of foreign election threat

-Today, after more details were made public, Warner issued statement w/ Rubio; Pelosi/Schiff issued separate, more sharply worded one; 0 from Schumer yet
HMM: SCHUMER lines up with House Dems who say the new election interference info makes a “false equivalency” between Russia and Iran/China.

This differs from Warner, who issued a joint statement with Rubio praising the release of the new info.

Today, the intelligence community confirmed what @NatashaBertrand @AndrewDesiderio and I have been reporting since July 20: that they have intel of a Russian interference plot connected to Kremlin allies in Ukraine.

2) Then we learned that the alleged plot included, at least tangentially, packages sent to House and Senate Rs from Andrii Derkach, a Ukrainian lawmaker linked to the Russian effort: politico.com/news/2020/07/2…
3) Next we revealed that Dems raised the packages to the FBI’s attention in January, after inadvertently learning one had been sent to Rep. Devin Nunes (who won’t say if he got it or what he did with it). politico.com/news/2020/07/3…

In a classified briefing yesterday, Trump’s top counter intel official told lawmakers that Russia was indeed working to boost Trump and denigrate Biden. But top Democrats are mad he won’t make the specifics public.

All of this stems from Dems’ demand for an FBI briefing on intelligence that Andrii Derkach, a pro-Russian Ukrainian official, is involved in an effort to manipulate Congress in service of these ends.
