I'll be live-tweeting tonight for the @DailyEmerald from Sladden Park in #EugeneOregon for the "Justice for Isiah" protest and "peaceful march" starting at 6:30 p.m.
I didn't realize it at the time of announcement, but this park is adjacent to where Travis Waleri, the man who hit Isiah Wagoner, was arrested.
Isiah just announced that the event will be starting at 7 p.m.
There are about 20 or so protesters here so far and I counted a few dozen counter-protesters down the street by Whiteaker School.
Alright, definitely more than 20 protesters.
Isiah says "there's not going to be a lot of changing. I just want you to walk and listen."
The group is bringing to walk down the street.
It's pretty quiet
We are at the roundabout where Isiah was struck by a vehicle.
*upside down and I apologize. Twitter won't let me fix it*
Isiah has launched into a speech about what Mayor Vinis hasn't done for the homeless community in Eugene.
A VERY large truck just got close to the back of the group and revved off and away.
The group just arrived at Monroe Park
Isiah is making clear that this is not a mayoral campaign event but is clarifying what people have asked him regarding his qualifications.
He is now discussing the cost of medical care and the need for more BIPOC instructors in schools.
There are two drones up above.
"I'm not going to lie to anyone here, but if I'm mayor, I will probably not defund the police" says. Instead, he'll focus on expanding other services.
Isiah is leading the group and they are marching.
Isiah is calling for a simplified phone number for CAHOOTS.
An EPD SUV with lights on us now tailing the group.
Make that three. Two with lights on. Third off.
"I'm not a Klansman who comes out at night and sets stuff on fire" Wagoner says of other protest groups.
Isiah just said the event is over.
/thread.
Sorry, forgot to close the thread.

I'm not sure what's going on with this alternate universe but there's an awful lot of non-Black individuals using the n-word and claiming to be spokespeople for the Black community in the replies 😳😳
OHMYGOD. I didn't even see the now-deleted second part to the apology 😳
The ACLU of Oregon has released an alarming Call to Action regarding proposed accountability standards for cops within the state and how the process is being co-opted by law enforcement themselves.
"Oregon is trying to create accountability standards for cops; however, this process is being co-opted by police and their accomplices to shield bad cops."
Well I'm here at the corner of Garfield and 9th Place where houseless residents living in trailers were threatened early last night and told they would towed this morning.
Stop The Sweeps is here to aid.
I was here earlier this morning, too, when folks actually thought something was going to happen. Nothing did.
But now, at 9:45 a.m., EPD is present talking with one of the people here. Folks have been told they have until Monday before they'll be ticketed and forced to leave.
Wow. I've moved just a few blocks over to 8th and Grant where other RVs are being towed away.
I'm walking up to Tykeson Hall at UO for this teach-in about the CIA since they are, apparently, recruiting on campus this week.
Notably, I just learned today that the university's Center for Cyber Security and Privacy is sponsored by both the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security 😬
Signs that say "CIA Go Way" and "Fuck the CIA" rest against concrete ledges behind Tykeson Hall.
