For decades there’s been a massive redistribution of wealth and power under the guise of national security. We’ve missed out on money for education and healthcare and infrastructure and nearly every project undertaken has either been unnecessary or has failed completely.
We do ourselves such a disfavor by pretending like this moment of crisis was inevitable or fated instead of the direct result of mismanagement, inhuman projects, and blatant greed.

And the money and focus are certainly damning, but the pursuit of hegemony has not only backfired but corroded as a culture. Militarism has fostered fascism and murderous xenophobia. Our recent history is a lesson in how a power can simply destroy itself.
