1/ After listening to the @RobertKennedyJr Twitter space today, I am no longer a guaranteed GOP vote in the general election.
I would vote for Kennedy over AT LEAST Haley, Pence, and Hutchinson.
2/ @RobertKennedyJr is principled and understands the Constitution and its guarantee to protect the rights of Americans. He’s for free speech, for open debate, against vax mandates, against the war in Ukraine, for 2A (solutions other than gun control), for securing the border,… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
3/ I would like to hear his perspective on 1A and religious liberty, and hopefully will have a future opportunity to ask him.
“My view though is we should want the country to do well. I want other Republicans to do well. I want them to eclipse me. We’re setting a great standard in Florida, have everyone up their game.”
DESANTIS: “When we won the American Revolution, Washington surrendered his sword. George III said he’s the greatest man in the world if he gives up power. I think the person is more about how you handle your public duties and the kind of character you bring to that endeavor.”
DESANTIS: “I also think just in terms of my approach to leadership, I get personnel in the Government who have the agenda of the people and share our agenda. You bring your own agenda in you’re gone. We’re just not gonna have that. So, the way we run the Government I think is no… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
I am a big fan of Gov DeSantis, but remain unconvinced that 1A retaliation (which I’m convinced this is) for exercising constitutionally protected speech (however distasteful such speech is, like opposing the Parental Rights in Education Bill) is a legitimate legislative and… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
I don’t think it’s exactly a feather in my cap that Mike Pence agrees 😅 but adding this to evidence it is a legitimate constitutional and conservative question. There should be a better public discussion on this than just “end the woke!” I care about 1A.
.@benshapiro posted this on FB and it’s a misinterpretation of the biblical command to pray.
THREAD: 🧵⬇️
Shapiro’s claim is that it doesn’t matter if anyone is actually listening to your prayers. What matters is if you reorient yourself toward God, whatever that means.
This is contrary to scripture (and also CS Lewis’s point).
Unlike Shapiro, CS Lewis claimed that if you don’t “feel” anything, pray anyway. God is there whether we feel it or not. Prayer is not just a religious exercise to better yourself or feel somethjng. Jesus spoke very strongly against rituals (Matt 5-7).
The limiting principle is enumerated in 1A: FREE exercise of religion. This does not mean only orthodox Christianity. The most misunderstood principle of a Christian nation is that God Himself does not compel belief or worship; neither can the state (nor can it prohibit worship).
A nation founded on Christian principles is the only internally consistent structure that requires limited government for the purpose of protecting *God-given* RIGHTS (not state-given privileges). Without God, we cannot objectively define individual rights.
A Christian nation requires that the state is limited in power to protecting an individual’s right to discover truth, answer for themselves what they believe about God, where and how and if they worship, how they raise their children. Free exercise without state interference.
