They did not loot the passengers’ luggage .They did not steal from the pockets of the injured passengers. They did not show any difference between passengers wearing skull caps or those who sported tilaks on their foreheads.
They did not think of the high petrol cost or the difficult times their families were going through due to covid. They did not bother to keep safe distance and did not refuse to touch those not wearing masks. The formed long queues in front of blood banks with men
& women volunteers waiting to donate their blood for the injured passengers… They did not bother about the leather seat covers of their cars getting stained with blood and mud when they took injured passengers in their cars. They did not know the names, religions
or nationalities of the passengers whom they rushed to hospital at high speed in their vehicles. They did not bother about the torrential rain that was pounding through the night when they rushed to the airport after hearing of the aircraft crash. They did not wait for police
or ambulances to come & pick up the injured. Whatsapp msgs with pictures children and their caretakers were sent to all known numbers & groups with contact numbers of the person who had the child, till the parents contacted them.
All this was done by the ordinary people of MALAPPURAM, Kerala who had such kindness & presence of mind to respond to the situation risking their own lives. These same people were not long ago accused of a heinous crime they did not commit.
I have visited Malappuram many times in the past and can say from my personal experience that they are the most kind, most honest and most cultured people in the country.
