Unlike many nations, America has only had men as presidents. Major world powers including Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, South Korea & the UK have all had women as presidents or prime ministers. The list goes on & spans every continent. But not the U.S. #velshi

Shirley Chisholm, a Black woman, sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1972 . Members of the media literally laughed when she announced. Geraldine Ferraro became the first woman to run on a major party ticket when she paired with Walter Mondale in 1984. #velshi

Then-gov. of Alaska Sarah Palin ran with John McCain in 2008, losing to Barack Obama, who became the country's first BLACK president, something many thought would never happen. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, but we all know how that turned out. #velshi

It’s going to take effort to mess this one up. But if there’s anything America can mess up, it’s the advancement of women. We find reasons to criticize, demean & chastise women candidates in ways that we don’t do with men. We call women too angry, too ambitious. #velshi
