There is a false rumor on social media that police officers killed a 15-year-old on Sunday. Here are the facts:
- Officers responded to 911 calls about an armed man in Englewood
- A 20-year-old suspect fired at officers, gunfire was exchanged
- The suspect is in stable condition
As with all police-involved shootings, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the matter. We will continue to lean into our partnerships in law enforcement, community-based organizations and others to support on-going public safety efforts.
This is an extremely heartbreaking time—COVID, gun violence epidemic, systemic racism, and now this. We have been knocked down, but we will not be counted out. We always get back up because that's who we are as Chicagoans.

The city will be deploying more than 100 infrastructure assets citywide that will be strategically positioned by the Chicago Police Department to protect neighborhood commercial corridors and critical businesses, such as grocery stores and pharmacies.
Access to the downtown area will be temporarily restricted beginning this evening from 8 p.m.–6 a.m. The restricted access to the downtown area is NOT a curfew. All residents, essential workers and employees whose businesses are located downtown will have access at all times.
Access points are designated for residents, essential workers and employees whose businesses are located within the designated boundaries, individuals who reside in the surrounding area and residents engaged in essential activities.

Last night, after consultation with a variety of stakeholders, the City temporarily removed the Christopher Columbus statues in Grant Park and Arrigo Park until further notice.
We took this step in response to demonstrations that became unsafe for both protesters and police, and to efforts by individuals to independently pull the Grant Park statue down in an extremely dangerous manner.
This step is an effort to protect public safety and to preserve a safe space for an inclusive and democratic public dialogue about our city's symbols.

EFFECTIVE MONDAY: To preserve the gains Chicago has made, we're issuing an Emergency Travel Order directing travelers entering or returning to Chicago from states experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 cases to quarantine for a period of 14 days. More info→ chicago.gov/coronavirus
This order will apply to both residents returning from a designated state and travelers arriving from a designated state.
We'll be determining which states are covered by the order by looking at the latest public health data—particularly whether a state has a case rate growth of 15 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents per day. The most up-to-date list can be found at chicago.gov/coronavirus.
