Mueller’s lack of effort to pursue Trump’s financial dealings may end up being one of the biggest mistakes in modern political history.
I’ve heard the reasons why the office didn’t go for it, but I simply reject their premise. You can’t get the full picture of Russian interference without looking at the man’s financial records.
We know for a fact that Trump got $20,000,000 in 2013 from the Agalarov’s who had a very cozy relationship with the KGB - per @CatherineBelton’s book. This is more than enough for Mueller to have demanded taxes, Deutsche Bank records, etc.
ESPECIALLY because Agalarov and his shell company protege Ike Kaveladze were the central players in the infamous Trump Tower meeting in 2016.
Could Rosenstein have blocked the line of inquiry? Sure. But we don’t know. Keen to see what @AWeissmann_ has to say on this topic in his book, if he addresses it.
