Mark and Jedy Agency, working in cahoots with goons and area police, are harassing tenants of a plot in Coast area of Kawangware in contravention of the Rent Restriction Tribunal areas.
Here are the facts. #StopTenantsHarassment

Tenants requested the Mark and Jedy agency for time to pay rent but the agency did not respond. They later cut off electricity and water for some of the tenants and stopped collecting garbage from the premises. #StopTenantsHarassment

The agent and landlord visited the tenants whereupon tenants told them their problems – the landlord said he would think about the tenants' grievances, but only to later send representatives with police officers to intimidate the tenants. #StopTenantsHarassment

Some tenants sought the landlord and tenant association of Kenya – @latakKenya – to help. 20 of them registered as members whereupon LATAK sent a letter asking Mark and Jedy agency to reconnect electricity and water to the premises. This did not happen. #StopTenantsHarassment

The agency began sending vacation notices to tenants – particularly the vocal ones – asking them to leave the premises in 25 days.

The tenants approached the Rent Restriction tribunal which gave orders to the agency and the building’s landlord to allow the tenants more time to pay their rent. #StopTenantsHarassment

The Rent Restriction Tribunal vide the ruling pictured below, specifically stated that the Tenants shouldn’t be harassed by the agency, the landlord or their surrogates and that the water & electricity supply be reconnected. #StopTenantsHarassment

Mark and Jedy agency, instead of following the tribunal’s orders, recently embarked on a campaign of fear and intimidation on the tenants. #StopTenantsHarassment

They have repeatedly visited the premises with goons who have destroyed the tenants’ property and threatened them – particularly those tenants who have been vocal about the injustices they have been facing. #StopTenantsHarassment

The video below shows a woman called Jedy from the agency accompanied by men. She singles out one of the vocal tenants and calls him the chairman of the tenants. She later calls the someone on her phone who she addresses as “Bwana  OCS.” #StopTenantsHarassment

Some tenants had their windows panes removed, exposing their property to thieves. Another tenant has had his power supply cut off since March – the agency is trying to get tenants to move out - tenants who have stayed as long as five years in the plot. #StopTenantsHarassment

At least 6 representatives of the tenants’ living in the premises who liaised with the association and have been in the Rent Restriction Tribunal have been harassed by police. With some being accused of gun possession. #StopTenantsHarassment

OCS, Muthangari Police Station was directed by Rent Restriction Tribunal to ensure compliance of Tribunal’s orders but on the contrary @NPSOfficial_KE officers are used to intimidate tenants who have been vocal about the harassment they have had to endure. #StopTenantsHarassment

Tenants have been reporting the harassment to Muthangari Police Station, but no action has been taken to address their complaints.
Some of the goons hired by the agent have destroyed tenants’ property – removing windows from their houses. #StopTenantsHarassment

One of the more vocal tenants had his property destroyed by goons. The tenant, Damian Lirechi went to the Chief’s office in Kawangware to report but was arrested on trumped up charges – said to be in possession of a firearm. #StopTenantsHarassment

He was also accused of intimidating his workers. It is said that police who arrested him are demanding for a 15000 bribe to let him go. #StopTenantsHarassment

This arrest happened two days ago and he is reportedly still locked up at Kabete Police Station and has not been arraigned in Court yet - even though constitution stipulates that a suspect should be arraigned in court within 24 hours of his arrest.

Previously another vocal tenant was locked up for two nights – on no charge - so as to intimate him and the rest. He moved out of his house recently.

Owing to the intimidation and harassment, other tenants have gone underground.

The tenants are simply asking that the Tribunal’s orders be adhered to. But the police have accused these tenants of incitement and have further said that the tenants are working in cahoots with the area MP, Simba Arati, to grab the plot from the landlord.

The tenants have complained to Kabete OCPD Mr. Seda who said that Jedy should be arrested for not adhering to the Tribunal’s orders. But nothing has happened yet.

Tenants have had to endure harassment from the agency, its goons and the police on an all but daily basis. It is said that the tenants especially face this harassment from Friday to Sunday. #StopTenantsHarassment

@IG_NPS Could you please ensure that the orders of @Kenyajudiciary are followed? @npsc_KE @DCI_Kenya @IPOA_KE could you please investigate the claims made by the tenants in Kawangware?
