I'll be live-tweeting for the @DailyEmerald a little later this afternoon at the "Grocery Workers Against Racism" protest and march starting in the South Hills of #EugeneOregon at 4 p.m.
Beginning at Market of Choice, the plan is to march to Sundance Natural Foods.
Walked around and didn't see anyone here for the march?.
A few people have trickled in
We found the protest.
The solidaritea is here.
One protester said "we've gotten more 'fuck you's' than any other protest."
"We even got called witches."
About thirty protesters here with signs.
Many many honks of support
A leader of this march is explaining the reason for the protest to a passerby.
Small-flag counteprotest man has left.
Members of Black Unity are here.
The honking has mostly subsided.
Now a moment of silence for all those victimized at the hands of police brutality
Speaker says they weren't even allowed to wear a black COVID-19 mask until Market of Choice officially announced their support of BLM.
A few other speakers have come up and described alleged firings for being trans, a lack or management accountability and say that they'll come out here until they get their demands left.
The march is beginning.
Going to start by making noise in the parking lot of MOC.
Into the parking lot chanting "Black Lives Matter"
"Market of hypocrisy"
It's a sidewalk kinda day
I spoke too soon and he's back
The crowd is now chanting in front of Capella Market
"We are small but we are fierce!"
We've arrived at Sundance Natural Foods
Zay is speaking now.
"Sundance and other health food stores like it don't do shit for the community."
Zay is making clear that the goal is not to shut down the store — just demanding accountability and for them to "practice what they preach."
Protesters yell "fuck you" to those leaving the store
Woman from inside says "you're being played by the media" and "we all love eachother".
Protesters respond "wear a mask, wear a mask"
"That sign in the window is a front"
This man has a sign that says "Sundance is not racist"
An ex employee just told a story of her friend who almost got fired. The manager claims she's lying and that's not why she was fired. Other woman just told a Black man to "put their muzzle back on."
Correction: that was not Zay earlier.
"Sundance refuses to call CAHOOTS" one speaker says
The crowd is chanting "shame" towards the stores doors
Such an interesting dichotomy — there's a protest outside and people going in-and-out of the store as if nothing is happening.
The speaker for today was Tay (sp?), not Zay.
Chalk is being passed out to be used in the parking lot
The protest is over folks are leaving.

I'm not sure what's going on with this alternate universe but there's an awful lot of non-Black individuals using the n-word and claiming to be spokespeople for the Black community in the replies 😳😳
OHMYGOD. I didn't even see the now-deleted second part to the apology 😳
The ACLU of Oregon has released an alarming Call to Action regarding proposed accountability standards for cops within the state and how the process is being co-opted by law enforcement themselves.
"Oregon is trying to create accountability standards for cops; however, this process is being co-opted by police and their accomplices to shield bad cops."
Well I'm here at the corner of Garfield and 9th Place where houseless residents living in trailers were threatened early last night and told they would towed this morning.
Stop The Sweeps is here to aid.
I was here earlier this morning, too, when folks actually thought something was going to happen. Nothing did.
But now, at 9:45 a.m., EPD is present talking with one of the people here. Folks have been told they have until Monday before they'll be ticketed and forced to leave.
Wow. I've moved just a few blocks over to 8th and Grant where other RVs are being towed away.
I'm walking up to Tykeson Hall at UO for this teach-in about the CIA since they are, apparently, recruiting on campus this week.
Notably, I just learned today that the university's Center for Cyber Security and Privacy is sponsored by both the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security 😬
Signs that say "CIA Go Way" and "Fuck the CIA" rest against concrete ledges behind Tykeson Hall.
