@joshuapsteele Call me and we'll talk. I'm curious what you are passionate about as an Anglican. Bonhoeffer would be on your side more than Barth on those episcopal/sacramental issues. Hauerwas and Willimon would also agree with you. Email scholars of Barth/Bonhoeffer to ask to talk on phone.
@joshuapsteele I argue that Barth and Bonhoeffer agreed on much.

But Bonhoeffer had a much more Lutheran / Anglican understanding of the sacraments (see Discipleship) than Barth.
I also think Bonhoeffer's reading of the Sermon on the Mount has odd aspects.
@joshuapsteele Barth had an odd view of art, whereas Bonhoeffer had opposed singing in harmony.
Bonhoeffer tried to bring back confession as a practice, and Barth had no interest in that as clerical religiosity and intimacy.
@joshuapsteele Barth preached in prisons whereas Bonhoeffer brought ministry to youth and then to an underground seminary. Neither (after Barth left pastoral ministry in Safenwil) did much ministry in traditional church buildings. They were creative (like we have to be in covid).
@joshuapsteele Bonhoeffer was much more rooted in the propriety, manners, and cooperation of the upper class of wealthy German Lutheran Berlin society.
Barth was an Swiss, rural, country, pastor's son, pastoring among the mine and factory workers, with a chip on his shoulder, lobbing bombs.
