Apocalypse comes from the Greek for "lifting the veil."

The optimistic interpretation is that everyone's wearing the veil, and events cause them to see things as they actually are.
The pessimist interpretation is that only some people are wearing the veil, and it takes those events for them to finally understand what the unveiled have been saying the whole time.
Obviously the pessimist interpretation is closer to being correct.

Black women have been saying what things are actually like for generations. Disabled people have seen the reality. Etc.
A more accurate interpretation has to start from the matter of who is wearing the veil, and who has never had their vision obscured.

What happens when you unveil a fascist, and let him see absolute reality? Peel his eyelids open to it?
Because those who've never lived under a veil, have been vocal about what things actually look like.

Those wearing the veil, who've never seen that: would removing the veil have any effect on their behaviour?
A more pessimistic interpretation is that apocalypse comes, events strip off the veils of those privileged enough to wear them, and their behaviour is unchanged.

In fact, they get more satisfaction out of seeing clearly, finally, what they had hoped to see.
A klansman looking at strange fruit, a nazi looking at a mass grave, they don't need a veil to fool them. They'd thank you for letting them see the fruits of their labors so clearly.
A more pessimistic interpretation is thus that apocalypse really only means *some* people's veils, snatched off by events, affects things.

Not those who've never worn the veil, not those who happily inflict cruelty.

The white moderate, basically.
The liberal, white moderate, who enables those atrocities, who gives them legitimacy, neither in power nor the one that power is used on.

The apocalypse has already long-since come for the downtrodden *and* those who step on them.
No, the apocalypse only has meaning for those stuck in the middle.

The people for whom the cruelty of those in power, was someone else's problem. Regrettable, not nice, but just how things are.
A meaningful apocalypse, is centered on the liberal, the white moderate.

It's *their* veils coming off that shows them the world as it actually is, and shows them how far they've deluded themselves.
The goal of any effective protest is to cause a localized apocalypse. To strip the veils off the liberal enablers, and force them to see reality as it actually is.
Good and necessary trouble is trouble that strips the veil off a white moderate. That forces a liberal to see reality as it is.

It forces those who enable, to stop enabling.

It forces good men to realize they can't actually be good if they do nothing.
A more pessimistic interpretation is that veils continually lift.

Biblically, every decent guy is described as "good for his generation."

The apocalypse as on-going, a continuous lifting of a series of veils, each one lifted making vision a bit more clear
Immanentizing the eschaton is nothing more than figuring out the best, fastest, and most efficient way to force liberals to see absolute reality.
