@JamesTodaroMD Excellent work, Dr.Todaro.
I'm Japanese and I've been wondering about the difference in severity and mortality rates from the new coronas between Asia and the Western world. Then I was surprised to see the paper in Nature on July 15.
@JamesTodaroMD Seventeen years later, memory T cells in SARS survivors are still responding to the new coronavirus, and the positive rate of antibody tests in Tokyo in June was only 0.1%. Almost no antibodies were produced.
@JamesTodaroMD This means that even before the pandemic, some kind of virus had already caused memory T cells to react to the new corona virus in Japan.
This is true for all of Asia, including Japan.
@JamesTodaroMD A study by Prof. Kamikubo of Kyoto University showed that last year's flu infection rate was noticeably lower than usual. This indicates that other viruses were prevalent and interfered with the flu. He claims that this virus is an early form of the new coronavirus.
@JamesTodaroMD He says that by being pre-infected with this less virulent early form, they acquired immunity and were less likely to develop the symptoms of the virulent new corona that caused the pandemic.
@JamesTodaroMD By the way, a study by Boston University and Harvard University reported that some virus was already prevalent in Wuhan last summer. That's because the words "cough" and "diarrhea" were frequently mentioned in Internet searches in Wuhan.
@JamesTodaroMD In addition, satellite images of a hospital in Wuhan city show that the number of parked cars in the parking lot increased from August to December, peaking in December.
@JamesTodaroMD This is my speculation, but the new coronavirus was already prevalent in Wuhan, and the infection was spreading in the Asian countries that Chinese people often visit.
