As CEO of Megaupload I would sometimes get involved in enforcement action against pedophiles who uploaded child pornography to our sites.
I’m a father of 5 wonderful kids and like everyone with a healthy mind I’m deeply offended by pedophilia and sick people harming and exploiting children.
So it was my strict policy to take immediate action when such offending was reported to Megaupload 24/7.

I was personally cc’ed on all emails to legal@megaupload. Sometimes law enforcement or child protection organizations would inform us about child pornography links on Megaupload. It was the responsibility of our CTO and myself to take immediate action in such cases.
When I received such notifications while our CTO wasn’t online (sleeping) our procedure was that I would review the reported link to see if it was justified to wake him to take immediate action. As a result I would sometimes be exposed to the worst content on the Internet.
I would click on the reported link, download the content, screen it and wake up our CTO if necessary for immediate takedown of the link. He would also identify all upload and download IP addresses and submit them to the parties that reported the link, including law enforcement.
Immediately after I deleted the content from my PC. After the raid the FBI found 2 such files in my trash folder and used that against me in Court. The meta data showed that they were viewed only once on my PC and the MD5 hashes were identical with the files we took down.
But New Zealand Crown lawyers on orders of the US DOJ withheld that information and told Judges that they can’t return the clones of my hard drives to me, full of evidence I needed to defend myself in the copyright case, because they found child pornography on them.
By doing this the New Zealand Crown lawyers have willfully polluted the minds of Judges by suggesting that I consumed child pornography myself without providing any context about why those files were really on my computer.
These evil prosecutors at the US DOJ and New Zealand Crown law would do anything to win, and they have, and this is just one of many examples that I’ll share with you. US lawfare is disgusting and the New Zealand authorities and Courts have been willfully blind, serving the US.
