First, the position was that the algorithm was sacrosanct and more reliable than mock exams or teachers’ assessed grades.
Ofqual then changed tack, saying mock exams could be more reliable than the algorithm.
In the statement pulled last night, they admit that teachers’ assessed grades can be more reliable than mocks—but only if the teachers’ grades mark a student down. Not up.
This is not a rational policy. We have written to say so, and to ask for disclosure of documents about this mess. We will keep you posted.
