Today's crappy online service of the day: @merseyrail Online Ticketing. Merseyrail sell tickets online you say? Well, kind of. You can buy Day Savers which to be fair are probably their most popular ticket. (1/7)
First of all - you can't buy tickets in the app. There's not even a link to buy tickets in the app. This is a web only experience. Your ticket is delivered as a PDF via email. (2/7) 
There's something missing here. Unlike at the stations or self service ticket machines you can't pay by @AmexUK. Have fun buying your ticket international travellers. (3/7)
Remember it says you'll be emailed a PDF ticket? It doesn't say until the end that you'll also have to wait some time for it to turn up - it "should" arrive within 5 minutes. Hope you're not rushing for the last train. (4/7)
When the email does turn up you'll get a broken HTML email (it looks like there should be a Merseyrail logo). (5/7)
Awesome. So there's a QR code here which you'd hope would work with the QR code readers spread across the UK train network. But then the PDF says you can't use it for that - you'll have to find a member of staff to let you through the barriers. (6/7)
So in summary - basically it's a slower and more painful to use experience than just buying a ticket at the station. Next time I'll buy a ticket at the station like a normal person and earn some Amex points. F for effort, must try harder. (7/7)
