At #TLM20 #SomavaaramBookClub, lets learn about the least talked about; Uttarandhra (north Andhra) literature. North Andhra comprises Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.
Among other reasons to read their work,portrayal of Uttarandhra culture and representation of Uttarandhra dialect is one.The beauty of Telugu regional dialect is best explored through its literature. Here’s an illustration made by @hungry_yadla featuring five Uttarandhra writers;
Gurajada Apparao, K.N.Y. Patanjali, Rachakonda Viswanatha Sastry, Kalipatnam Ramarao & Attada Appalanaidu. Their work highlights social issues, cultural traditions, socio-cultural practices and linguistic usages that are unique to Uttarandhra.
Their writings also reflect realities of middle and lower classes of the society and representations of the marginalised and underprivileged.
Their choice of employing Telugu regional dialects in their writings also reflects the beauty of nativity expressed in Telugu while asserting their regional identity and rich legacy of Telugu language.
Thought-provoking social consciousness, socialistic thoughts, intellectuality and humanism are major approaches in Uttarandhra literature which makes it contemporary and progressive.
