A mask is like a sanitary napkin. It is uncomfortable. You don't like it. You long for the day when you no longer have to wear it. Yet, you have no choice but to wear it.

But that's not all; there are other similarities between the two.

You cannot wear a sanitary napkin and forget about it. You must replace it when it gets saturated or after 6 hours.
Same with masks. You have to change it after a few hours, or risk contamination from the pathogens that stick to the mask.
Dispose responsibly and wash hands.

Neither offers 100% protection.
Sanitary napkins leak. That doesn't mean you stop using them; you find the one best suited for your need.
You pick your mask after assessing the conditions where you will wear. Most commercially available mask are sufficient for 'regular' use.
+
Disposable masks and disposable sanitary napkins both add to the landfill unless incinerated.
True.
You can use cloth, but ensure that thread count is high, and there are multiple layers. Loose weaves don't offer sufficient protection.
+
You don't keep touching the sanitary napkin.
Ensure that you don't do it with a mask either. If you have to take the mask off, it shouldn't touch a surface which has potentially come in contact with a pathogen.
Do not place a mask on the cash counter, for instance.
+
Sanitary napkins incorrectly used can cause infections. It is the same with masks.
The solution is not to say masks are evil. The solution is to educate on proper mask usage. Unfotunately people highlight the so called dangers, without an alternative and people get fooled.
+
Menustrual cups and tampoons can replace a sanitary napkin.
Unfortunately, there is nothing that can replace a mask, except another mask.

If you just cannot wear a mask, stay at home and do not come in contact with anyone. Otherwise, wear masks, responsibly.

There is a reason why health care workers use masks as integral part of their protective gear against the virus despite all the hardships.

Masks are literally the ONLY protection against a virus which neither has a cure nor a vaccine.

Masks are essential. Like sanitary napkins
Slightly longer version.
