Their life of sincere worship was the highest example that the Ṣufis sought to one in all successive generations of Islām.
The leaders of the Ṣufis were the people of al-Ṣuffa in the time of the Prophet ﷺ, so know their description. They are the guests of Allāh and Islām, because they were the people who sat with the Master of Mankindﷺ.
He says that which the Sufis follow, and their guide in the path of divestment [of self-calculation-tajrid] and abandonment of means, and absorption in the Lord of Lords are the people of al-Ṣuffa. This was a place that the Prophet ﷺ built
