Scenes from a USG university this week: 1. being told there is no procedure for faculty who are informed that a student has been exposed to Covid-19 or tested positive. No procedure. (thread)
Scenes from a USG university this week: 2. Potentially infected employees are supposed to contact HR, and HR (not a physician) makes the call as to whether the employee goes back to work while test results are pending. (HR advises said employee to return. Supervisor overrules.)
Scenes from a USG university this week: 3. Sympathetic HR staffer low-key admits to a potentially infected employee that the university is not going to be forthcoming about numbers, so apply for telework if you at all can.
Scenes from a USG university this week: 4. Packed Corvias-managed housing has multiple students in quarantine housing, ALREADY. They are on the honor system not to leave or to admit any guests.
Scenes from a USG university this week: 5. University officials refuse to disclose what buildings or locations have cases. Because FERPA or HIPPAA or "you don't need to know anyway."
Scenes from a USG university this week: 6. Classes have just started and already the technological fixes that were promised to isoltating students are breaking down: Echo 360 doesn't work for recording lectures. Classroom computers are slow. Sound doesn't work for Teams. Etc.
Scenes from a USG university this week: 7. "Enhanced cleaning" for classrooms consists of two cloths and a bottle of cleaning spray(?) that is left in the classroom for instructor and students to share to wipe down all desks, etc.
Scenes from a USG university this week: 8. When desks are wiped down, cloths come back full of dark filth from the ventilation system. The same ventilation system supposed to be magically protecting us from Covid-19.
Scenes from a USG university this week: 9. email asking us to become pen pals with the university's healthcare workers, because obviously that's the best thing we can do for them, rather than, oh, say, trying to stay healthy and the hell out of their hospital.
None of this makes sense, and in private, EVERY administrator admits it makes no sense. The emperor has no clothes. In all likelihood, though, he's going to have Covid-19. Sooner rather than later. /fin
