-promote mass incarceration
-deregulate finance
-spread racist stereotypes
-impede LGBTQ equality
-champion the Iraq War
-block reproductive rights
-enable abuses of immigrants
-foment deficit panic
Joe Biden has a documented history of lying, has been accused of sexual assault, and vehemently opposes policies that conflict with the interests of his corporate donors - like Medicare for All - even though they’re what millions of people desperately need.
Joe Biden is not Donald Trump, and on that criterion there’s a justification for supporting his candidacy. But let’s drop the ridiculous pretense that he’s a decent option if you care about social justice.

Economics instruction in the United States consists largely of empirically unsupported political theory masquerading as mathematical fact.
I very much appreciate this admission from the economics profession’s defenders that introductory economics instruction - which is all the vast majority of people encounter - consists largely of lying to students about how the economy works.
Suppose we were to accept that upper-level economics courses aren’t nearly as bad as intro courses & that the good ones can help you unlearn the nonsense you learn in intro courses. That still wouldn’t explain why it would be okay to teach people nonsense in the intro courses!

The HEROES Act has some good elements, like state fiscal relief & SNAP benefits, but it also cuts taxes for the rich through state & local tax deduction cap repeal, includes corporate & lobbyist giveaways, & fails to provide appropriate health coverage. It's not acceptable as is.
It's good to see progressive members of the House, led by @PramilaJayapal & @MarkPocan, upset with this bill & pushing back. The problem is that they won't accomplish much unless @SpeakerPelosi legitimately thinks she might lose their support.
The thing is, right now, @SpeakerPelosi believes that social justice advocates are unlikely to withhold their votes. That's the reason the legislation isn't very good. She has a number of privilege-defending goals & thinks she can pass legislation in line with them.

Biden is better than Trump, but voting for Biden tells the Democratic Party that, as long as the GOP is more scary, candidates whose policies oppress millions by design are acceptable. It seriously undermines progressive power in the long run. #WhyImNotVotingForJoe
In primaries, Democratic leaders push the premise that centrists are most electable. This argument is predicated on the view that they are entitled to social justice advocates’ vote but must work for centrists’ votes. That is enabled by the “vote blue no matter who” mindset.
It is totally reasonable & legitimate to have serious concerns about the possibility of 4 more years of Trump. But we are told the GOP is too dangerous to do anything but suck it up & vote for Democrats every single election. You have little leverage if you accept this logic.
