I’m finding all the “but the AI can pull more g” and “but the AI has no self-preservation instincts” takes both hilarious and infuriating.
That. Is. The. Point.
The “but the AI had total situational awareness” crowd have a good point. As @AussieFCI points out, we don’t have the sensors required to achieve such awareness - yet. But when we do, I venture a machine will be better at fusing data at the decision speed required for a dogfight.
The real question we should be asking is: given the tech advances of the last few decades, is dogfighting still a thing? Just because it was really important in the Battle of Britain and fighter pilots like it, doesn’t make it a useful #FutureWar construct.

The unhinged response to this frankly awesome video has to be coming from people who have never served themselves and who have never hung out with people who serve.
Here’s a tasting plate of military music videos from the last few years.🧵
The furore over the United Airlines announcement that they are trying to increase the size of their pilot talent pool by opening up opportunities to under-represented groups is both totally predictable and exactly why being a woman in aviation is SO DAMN TIRING. 1/🧵
The main complaint is that “hiring for diversity” will deliver incompetent pilots.
Guess what everyone? Being a white male doesn’t make someone a superior pilot. Trust me, I know!
You know what does? Training. And that’s exactly what United is proposing to do. 2/
The truth is that for decades the only people who could access aviation training in large numbers have been white men. That’s why they dominate the industry. Not because they are somehow innately better pilots. 3/
