For those who want to get into the weeds ...the official WH Rose Garden 2020 landscape report with history, point lists, schematics, etc. Photos from July 1962, a few months after the Mellon version was planted ovsla.com/wp-content/upl…
The plans appeared to include a smaller number of crabapple/flowering trees well into the process. The trees, which many of us associate with the Rose Garden and miss, were not considered “character defining features” that had to be retained. (None were originals.)
