👕 I know we're seeing a lot of threads at the moment but this is a conversation we need to have!
1/11
Post lockdown Foden served me well, I even captained him in GW37+ (thanks Sharko) but Pep was experimenting. There was no title up for grabs and Foden was getting the minutes. Both left and right of a front three and even as a false 9 (for 45 mins) in the Champs.
2/11
In has last 10 PL games he started 7 and was subbed on in the other 3.
His numbers were impressive. 5 goals, 1 assist, an impressive 26 goal attempts and 47 penalty box touches.
Now we’re all thinking, what’s not to like?
3/11
Let’s assume Pep is playing 4-3-3. Foden has the opportunity to play midfield three alongside KDB and a DM or front three alongside Sterling and a 9. So there are effectively two spots available for him but a lot of competition…
4/11
Dilva hasn’t been replaced so Foden is competing for a midfield spot with Bilva and Gundogan. Pep seems to double up with two holding mids against stronger opposition so against weaker teams he will be competing with Bilva/KDB for a place in the XI
5/11
Foden is competing with Mahrez, Bilva and Torres for one spot or possibly two when Sterling gets a rest. If one of these players hits form, Foden’s minutes will really suffer.
6/11
Chuck in Pep’s unpredictable line ups and we could see him starting fewer than 50% of games. With the games coming thick and fast this season he will get chances but will they be in the PL? At 6.5m we need someone thats a guaranteed starter don’t we?
7/11
Pep has played Foden in important games recently. Carabao Cup final, Champions League Quarter Final vs Real Madrid. If he plays well and starts scoring goals then he has a great chance of playing 75% of games.
8/11
However, if you own Foden you have to start him every week and if you do that, you risk the 10 minute cameo where he picks up a measly single FPL point. Remember he featured in all PL games post lockdown (3 as a sub).
9/11
At 6.5m he’s hugely appealing knowing his potential points celling is higher than others in his price band. But whilst I expect several double-digit hauls over the course of the season, I also expect a fair few 1 pointers and games where he misses out completely
10/11
There's no right and wrong answer. It all depends how you’re setting your squad up. Go with Foden & you have the stress of second guessing Pep (play him at home only?) & need a decent back up (thats extra £) to come in to your starting XI when you drop him
