Outgoing Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer is currently painting the Trudeau government as a Stalinist/Chavista/Castroist regime that has left "harm and misery" in its wake.

Can't believe the public never came around to this guy!
Scheer: "Challenge the mainstream media, don't take their narrative as fact, check out smart, independent, objective organizations...like the Post Millennial and True North."

Neither outlet is objective, neither follows any kind of journalism ethics guide. This is nutty.
uuuuh. @JamesMoore_org are you....ok?
I ate a pot brownie thinking the new Conservative leader would be announced at 9.

That may have been a mistake!
As you may know, if you've followed me for a bit, Canadian politics has made me sad and fatalistic in the last few years, so I've been trying to avoid the cut-and-thrust for the past year or so. But I've been thinking about this tweet a bunch:
*Too many voters don't hate Trudeau.* It seems like so much of Scheer's tenure — right down to his Say No To Bolshevism outro speech — was marked by an attempt to make people hate Trudeau. It, largely, didn't work, but it did, I think, intensify the level of hate that does exist.
Of course, just because people don't *hate* Trudeau doesn't mean they want him to keep his job. Hence Bruce's point: The attack defines the attacker. The anti-Trudeau movement has taken on the hallmarks of an unserious, vaguely deranged subset.
And, as I've been reporting for a few weeks, this atmosphere is making people nuts. The Conservative Party isn't uniquely responsible for this level of toxicity, by any stretch, but I think it colours the Tories by association, in the eyes of moderates. nationalpost.com/opinion/justin…
The leadership race was kabuki theatre. But the question is whether the new leader, whoever it is, can actually act like a leader, instead of a professional troll. They'll inherit a pretty loyal caucus, a weakened prime minister, and no serious competition.
Does O'Toole or MacKay keep campaigning for rage clicks on Facebook, convincing people about the pressing danger of Justin Trudeau; or does it run as an actual party, proposing an alternative?
Even if this seems like an obvious choice, I'm not sure it's entirely clear to everyone in the Conservative Party.
To the right hand I turn'd and fix'd my mind
On the other pole attentive where I saw
Four stars ne'er seen before save by the ken
Of our first parents Heaven of their rays
Seem'd joyous O thou northern site, bereft
Indeed, & widow'd since of these depriv'd
welcome to day two of the Conservative Party leadership race results show
I'm now convinced that they've actually shredded all the ballots and are trying desperately to piece them all back together.
The results are coming in province-by-province. The suspense!
These results are wild. MacKay, so far, with a 4-point lead. O'Toole second, Lewis a close third.
Onto ballot to, as MacKay has an absolutely anemic lead. It seems incredibly likely that O'Toole will take it.

But, also, who knows!
tonight, we are all Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.
And it's O'Toole with a huge lead. Thank you and goodnight.
