*Sobbing as he lamented partisan politics, the polarization of the Louisiana Legislature and the “hate mail” he’s received, Ardoin said during a Senate committee hearing: “This is not the best plan. Unfortunately, it’s the best plan I thought I could get passed.”* #lalege
This kind of partisan politics? instagram.com/p/CEJwrnXFoSo/…

La RS 18:18.2: “The secretary of state shall not participate or engage in any other political activity, including the candidacy of any other person for election to public office.” Twitter friends: why do you think we have this law? 🧐

What does Roe mean for women in #Louisiana?

First, the 3 clinics are now closed because of our #triggerban. While there is hope for litigation, I strongly suggest that anyone needing abortion care make plans to go out of state. 1
Luckily there are many pro choice states that have prepared for this, like California, Illinois, New York, & New Mexico to name a few. The closest by car is Illinois. It's rough. 2
Many, many women who seek abortion care have limited means. It will be even harder for them to seek this care if they have to fly out of state, get a hotel room, arrange for child care, etc. You can contact @NolaAbortionFnd @JanesDueProcess @AbortionFunds for info on funding. 3

10ish am update from district 91/district B/uptown/Hollygrove/channel/central city: not too bad.

Trees & branches down, only completely blocked a few places on Louisiana & Prytania. Lots of trees down on river side of Claiborne, traffic flowing. Don’t head out unless emergency.
So first I have to tell you DON’T DRIVE AROUND and don’t take videos. Literally don’t do this. (I have a #lalege plate.) Here’s some videos. Starting with Jackson in central city:
Corner stores and gas stations are about half open. This is on Jackson.

Since a couple thousand of you are very, very confused, here are just a few examples of why it’s sometimes embarrassing to be a white woman in this country.

To start, women like this, who yelled at children in protest of school desegregation: ImageImage
I could have started and ended this thread with Phyllis Schlafly. Her activism was so harmful to so many. Just google her, it’s too much.
Then there’s the 2016 election, and headlines like this, which are so incredibly frustrating: Image

Expanded vote by mail is incredibly popular in Louisiana & throughout the country. We have all the receipts to prove it: a recent poll, 1000s of emails & phone calls to elected officials, petition signatures, etc.....
It is a LIE to say that expanded vote by mail is not strongly supported by voters in Louisiana. (2)
Hold your elected officials to a higher standard than this shameful mess. You deserve the right to vote in a safe manner of YOUR CHOICE, and you deserve to have your vote counted. (3) #lalege

I wrote this with the recent SCOTUS decision in mind. But now seeing the extreme racial and economic disparities with Covid, it’s more important than ever that our state focus on increasing access to health care - not limiting it. Abortion is health care. #lalege
.....and for some other comparisons: abortion (medication or surgical) is safe and results in few complications. That is a fact. Yet the state has passed almost 100 laws regulating it & there are over 20 pages of regulations re clinics (maybe more by now!)......
The same people who do this refuse to wear a piece of cloth to help in stopping a global pandemic. A mask is similar to a seat belt or headlights on a car. It’s minimally invasive and extremely helpful. Somehow that is to much .....
