Faulty - @zoom_us failure got you down? You can get live and instructing with Google Hangouts. Here's a quickstart guide you can download, and I'll also post the individual steps in this thread. Lets all do our best to help our students! @IUONeillSchool

Step 1: Go to hangouts.google.com and sign-in. You can use whatever account you want. I'll show how this looks for an @IndianaUniv account. Click 'Sign in'
Step 2: Finish the sign-in process. Here you can see a screenshot of what my .@iu.edu authenticaon looks like. Your might just be a google log-in or maybe your institution has a custom interface like this. Doesn't matter. Just get signed in.
Step 3: You're signed in! Great! Click 'Video Call'
Step 4: Click 'Join or start a meeting'
Step 5: Give the meeting a saucy name and click continue. If you're doing this 10 mins before class and will stay on, go ahead and continue. If you want to schedule this well ahead of time, see the 'advanced move' link I'm pointing to in yellow.
Step 6: Give #BigBrother what they want - access to your microphone and camera. This will look different depending upon your browser and privacy settings. #BenevolentGoogleOverloards
Step 7: Now you can see the info for your meeting - both a link and phone number. Plan to sign in 15 mins before class & email this to your students, and let them know ahead of time this is the plan.

H/T @MellaTray for the perfectly timed message that popped into my screenshot
Step 8: Record it for students who can't sign-on. The recording will be stored in the google drive assocaited with whatever account you used to log on.
Step 9: Practice extreme compassion. Tech failing as the semester begins isn't easy for students nor instructors. Do your best, be honest that you're trying, and know that your students are, too.
Back to the beginning: Here is a slightly revised *.pdf that matches the images above: dropbox.com/s/eu5huagfjjls…
Step 10: How to email your students since Canvas is down? (via @RebeccaLave) Try the Faculty Center:
1. Log into One.IU
2. Go to the Faculty Center
3. Set the term/campus to Fall 2020
4. Select the course you want to email
...
Step 10 (continued)
...
5. Scroll down past the roster and click 'notify listed students'
6. That will open an email from you to all students in the course.

Thanks @RebeccaLave for this!
