DPD has deployed mobile cameras to the corner of Akard and Marilla. The system is from a company "Haystax" that makes surveillance systems for police. Not a lot is known but we assume they have facial recognition capabilities. (Thread) #Dallasprotests #Dallaswontrest
DPD has considerable funds for surveillance after the shooting in 2016, they lean heavily on automated systems because they have less officers every year. It is assumed the system is connected with DART police and allows DPD access to a large amount of video feeds in the city.
They were rolling out mobile units at the beginning of the George Foyd protests though we can assume they were used before that. Based off our intelligence the system may be able to use facial recognition or be tied back to DPD databases to track who comes near these cameras.
When you walk near the cameras, it will send an alert back to the app, alerting any units responsible for that area. Assume you are being watched and recorded at all times. Wear a mask to protect your identity and your health.
Again this is for informational purposes only. MASK UP, BLOC UP, seriously DPD is ramping up their surveillance programs. Secure your privacy IRL and online. DPPW will be releasing guides to help protect your identity during protests soon.
For any nerds interested, haystax.com/law-enforcemen…. We have looked on shodan to see if these systems are open to the internet but there isn't any good info on how these things operate or any footprints they leave (user agents, common open ports, etc).
