Not a lawyer, but appears a federal judge just struck down DoD policy preventing foreign-born service members from beginning naturalization process until completing basic training + serving for 6 months, despite being eligible under law to naturalize immediately - SAMMA v DOD

DoD had implemented a new policy that would not certify service for immigrant enlistees until they'd completed basic training + served for 6+ months, blocking them from the expedited path to citizenship provided to them under the law + forcing many to lose status in meantime
It also helped force the end of the Basic Training Initiative, a program that helped immigrant recruits begin their naturalization process while in basic training
