Entitlement is having a right to something. We are all entitled to safety, to respect, to love. Inside of Toxic Christianity people are taught they are entitled to a lot of things they are not actually entitled too,
(1)
and that becomes psychological entitlement “a personality trait characterized by pervasive feelings of deservingness, specialness, and exaggerated expectations” according to the APA.
(2)
Christian entitlement is enforced when leaders and pastors think you have to do what they say, you don’t. Nobody entitled to your decisions.
(3)
It is enforced when leaders and pastors (and Christians in general) assume their opinion is more important than other’s. Nobody is entitled to admiration or imposing their opinion as superior.
(4)
It is enforced when Christians believe their values and way of life are what’s best for all people. Nobody is entitled to decide shape someone’s life.

It is enforced when pastors and leaders demand free labor of people. Nobody is entitled to your work and energy.
(5)
It is enforced when Christians are demanded to attend church and people are told those who don’t go to church aren’t “real” Christians. Nobody is entitled to your time.

It is enforced when leaders refuse to be held accountable for harm, nobody is entitled to impunity.
(6)
It is enforced when Christians say “just pray and you’ll get what you deserve”, nobody is entitled to anything they haven’t worked for.
(7)
It is enforced when missionaries make decisions for communities of ppl they insert themselves into. Nobody is entitled to shape communities they aren’t a part of.
(8)
It is enforced when Christians demand we explain why we don’t express our faith like they do, or believe what they believe. Nobody is entitled to an explanation about our life.
(9)
It is enforced when pastors and leaders talk about things they don’t know anything of, or haven’t researched as though their uninformed stance is truth. Nobody is entitled to ignorance.
(10)
It is enforced when Christians demand their beliefs be protected above the human rights of others. Nobody is entitled harming others.
(11)
It is enforced when pastors and leaders break the rules and have severe punitive consequences when someone else breaks them. Nobody is entitled to hypocrisy.
(12)
It is enforced when Christians assert they are the “chosen” people of God. Nobody is entitled to a monopoly on divinity.
(13)
Psychological entitlement and supremacy complex are deeply connected. It is not healthy, nor is it normal to feel entitled to things you are not entitled to. Decolonizing your faith includes considering how you’ve been taught you are entitled to things you are not.
