Interesting development in the sexual harassment case of Jennifer Eckhart/Cathy Areu against Fox News and key network personalities: Fox served a Rule 11 notice to Areu's counsel Wigdor LLP. A snippet: 1/
As the text indicates, Fox News is attacking the allegations from "liberal sherpa" Cathy Areu in the lawsuit against Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Howard Kurtz. Those allegations were repeated far and wide upon the suit's filing. 2/
This story by Mediaite pointed to "holes" in the charges against Hannity, Carlson and Kurtz, citing emails and other considerations that challenged Areu's claims/timeline, etc. mediaite.com/news/holes-eme… 3/

@Fahrenthold That statement is a remarkable affirmation of the reporting of @Fahrenthold and others at @washingtonpost in that it showcases a White House official advocating for a private business. 2/
@Fahrenthold @washingtonpost What really must stop, of course, are the shenanigans exposed in all of those stories. And given how the era's most famous "dossier" was riddled with false and unproven statements, it's precious that the White House would use that term in this context. 3/

Some reporting that stems from today's @nytimes video staff meeting: Editorial Page Editor James Bennet appeared rattled and spoke minimally in proportion to his role in the Tom Cotton op-ed climbdown.
@nytimes He did apologize for the "pain" caused by his leadership, and the statement appeared to cover the Cotton imbroglio as well as other incidents in the past.
@nytimes Publisher A.G. Sulzberger said that the Cotton op-ed never should have been published and that the op-ed process at the New York Times is broken. That said, he expressed support and appreciation for Bennet and his section. The praise lasted several beats and wasn't pro forma.

The New York Times has stopped defending its Tom Cotton op-ed. Here's a statement from a company spox:
My reporting indicates that the Opinions section of the newspaper is contemplating the slashing of up to one fifth of its daily output, the better to exert greater oversight over pieces like Cotton's.
In his statements on the topic, NYT editorial page editor James Bennet hasn't mentioned that he actually read the piece prior to publication. It would be hard for the top editor of such a section to read *everything* pre-publication, considering its prolific output.
