So of you may know I often point out the limitations of #Blockchain.

But I was curious if a current #Cryptocurrency or other type of hApp was built on #Holochain, could some of that data be populated onto a blockchain?

The only reason I could think of doing so would
be if a current #blockchain project wanted to remove the inherent blockchain issues, Scalability, Consensus, Congestion & Cost but still be able to retain their brand or "chain".

#Holochain mitigates all of these issues with unlimited scaling, the options of zero TX/RX fees it
would make sense for some of them to migrate to a cutting edge architecture that puts them in the new generation of #cryptocurrency while still being able to maintain their roots.

So I spoke with #Holochain lead #Dev @helioscomm & Paul advised that yes this is indeed possible.
This is an edited version of our discussion for brevity.

Both #Holochain & #blockchain applications are able to receive information from the outside world, and the outside world is able to draw information from them and send it somewhere else.
Holochain uses RPC over WebSocket, & I imagine different #blockchains use variants of HTTP or WebSocket.

You have to bridge #Holochain & #blockchain's different ontological understandings of the world -- for Holochain, the agent's world (embodied in their conductor running
individual hApp instances) is everything; it's the place through which a human (or bot) senses &knows things about the world (either via the human/bot calling functions in a hApp instance via the WebSocket RPC API, or via the node's communication in the DHT with other nodes).
#Blockchain on the other hand, assumes that everyone has a global view, which is just a record of previous events.

Ultimately what would happen is that there would be a third piece of software, which would understand & know how to translate between these two worldviews.
It would sit on the same machine as a person's #Holochain node and their #blockchain node (or, alternatively, would have a connection to a public blockchain gateway).

Using a hApp as an oracle is an interesting challenge. It could provide non-ambiguous answers if what you're
looking for is a single agent that has the authority to give those answers. OTOH, if you want to leverage the 'multiple converging realities' aspect of #Holochain, you wouldn't be guaranteed to get the same answer twice if what you're looking for is, say, the USD/JPY conversion
rate as reported by 30 #Holochain nodes connecting to different currency exchanges.

You'd have to get clever, e.g., by defining that you checked *these* 30 nodes and derived the average rate to get the answer.

the DNA of the hApp isn't able to call out to the outside world,
well, it is, but only in a "hey, to anyone who's interested, this piece of data just got written to the DHT" sort of way.

You'd still need a piece of software that listens for that signal and knows how to talk to the #blockchain software.
This would not apply for an entity with the knowledge of an indisputable instance, for example if the information was coming from a betting agency about the result of a race where there is no dispute as to the result then that agency is likely already using a UI,
the most likely piece of software to do this mediation would be the same UI.

Input the information, get back signed proof that it was committed to the #Holochain #DHT, and commit that proof to the #blockchain as a transaction.
The important distinction to make is that a #Holochain hApp be it a #Cryptocurrency or other consists of two parts, the Holochain DNA & the other part and rest of the hApp which can take any form you like, most likely it will be web-based UI's running on the users device &
talking to the DNA.

As well as the option of a third party bridging software to allow the #Holochain hApp to speak to the #Blockchain it could even be possible to use #Chainlink or #Link as the mediator but would need to look into it more.
So there you have it guys, in case any of you were wondering, it is possible for #Holochain to speak to the #Blockchain.

Like someone from Mensa speaking to an idiot. 😆

(You didn't think I could do a thread this long about blockchain & be able to restrain myself did you?)😝
On a serious note, thanks very much Paul @helioscomm for your input & knowledge.
