I don't know, but I'm assuming they would have talked to her.
She may have talked about the issues and the fact that she was writing something... and they stood by her.
I assume because they could see it was a nuanced and compassionate essay
Presumably because they had come under some pressure they could no longer withstand.
It certainly wasn't because of some breakthrough in their analysis.
Or because they wanted anyone to hear what they had to say on it.
They didn't. And if they had her integrity and her strength they would have stuck with that position.
