28 August 2013 -

The day when our brave men undercover conducted one of the boldest and most shameful operations ever recorded in Indian history.

Why shameful? I'll come to that later -

#TRUTHhurts
The operation was to survey a potential target, which later turned out to be a dreaded terrorist, who had made Nepal his refuge.
So what's common between Jaipur, Hyderabad, Pune and New Delhi?

All were whacked by serial bomb blasts, that killed several people and injured hundreds of others. Between 2008 - 2013, all of these blasts were conducted by one man. JUST ONE MAN.
Some called him the Invisible Terror, some simply called him as 'Ghost', but he was officially anointed as 'India's Osama'.

This man was Muhammad Ahmad Siddibappa, or what the world knows better as YASIN BHATKAL -
Yasin Bhatkal was the commander of Indian Mujahideen, and was almost invincible. He had his hand in everything related to terrorism, and yet, despite being available in almost freely, none of the agencies were able to even trace him, forget capturing him.
As ascertained through interrogations, post most of his blasts, Yasin would take refuge in Nepal, where he worked as Dr. Shahrukh, a Unani medicine specialist.

Interestingly, he freely roamed in Bihar under a niqab, all this while being 'on the run'.
So what led to the unexpected capture? RAW COURAGE!

The Special Operations Group of Intelligence Bureau, then stationed in Patna, got some crucial leads about the terrorist.
When the group leader appointed his senior, he was bluntly told that the HQ won't even permit them for the mission, forget allotting funds for the same -

However, the leads were such that the SOG couldn't afford to let it go. So they acted on their own, and took the help of an SP stationed in East Champaran, which was close to the Nepalese border.

The team of approximately nine officers set out for Nepal.
Now why this operation was shameful? It was so because the officers went without any weapons, any official assistance and any kind of backup. Yes, an Intelligence Bureau was forced to act on their own, because the then Central Government were too retarded to even spare a buck.
When they surveyed the location and the target, they were confirmed that the target was indeed Yasin. However, when the night of the raid came, the Nepalese backup team reported that there was no Unani doctor at the three storeyed mansion in Pokhara.
However, refusing to believe the theory, the SOG made a bold dash, and captured the suspects. Later it was told that the officers knew very well of the consequences, including them being framed just like Lt Col Purohit was in 2008 for Malegaon blasts -

However, when there is a will, there is a way. The officers nabbed the two suspects, and after a tough interrogation, one of them admitted that he was indeed YASIN BHATKAL.
Incidentally, the terrorist was working an audacious plan to nuke Surat, with notices ready in advance to advise the Muslims to evacuate the city, when he was captured. Had the SOG not taken the bold step of discarding the diplomatic conventions, imagine the havoc wreaked -
Funnily enough, Asadullah Akhtar aka Haddi, a terrorist who had barely managed to escape the crossfiring at the Batla House, was also captured in this melee.

No wonder there was a dialogue in a film based on the same, "Are Waah, Happy Hour! Ek ke Saath Ek Free!" -
The operation was adapted into 'India's Most Wanted', directed by Rajkumar Gupta.
While the premise was good, the casting of Arjun Kapoor as the group leader of the SOG, ruined the whole experience. Imagine Ajay Devgn or even Rajkummar Rao in that role.
