What is the joint subcommittee? What am I talking about? See below!

As you know (I assume) there is a national conversation right now about racism and police brutality. Davis City Council listened to 90 minutes of public comment in their budget meeting in June about the police in Davis and what the public wanted to see.

[As always if I have any facts incorrect, lmk]

Most of the comments (from my memory) called for cutting some or all of the Davis Police Department's budget.

City Council did not cut the budget that night citing lack of information.

The city of Davis in addition to having a City Council also has commissions that people volunteer for. Ranging from Planning to Natural Resources to Social Services.

City Council tasked three of the commissions to come up with recommendations around public safety in Davis.

Those three commissions are: Police Accountability, Social Services, and Human Relations

The joint subcommittee is members of those 3 commissions that meet to discuss public safety in Davis and the recommendations they will give to Council.

The commissions they are on also discuss public safety.

UC Davis researchers associated with Yolo People Power actually presented to the Social Services Commission about Davis public safety!
