My opponent claims he’s “progressive,” but his marijuana stances and record tell an entirely different story.

We did the research he hopes his constituents won’t do.

⬇️ A thread ⬇️
First, Rep. Gomez hasn’t cosponsored the STATES Act, which would:
•Decriminalize cannabis federally in states that legalized
•Unlock growth for cannabis industry by making these businesses eligible to deduct ordinary expenses
•Uphold states’ rights under the Tenth Amendment
Second, he hasn’t cosponsored the MORE Act, which would:
•Fully decriminalize and legalize cannabis
•Expunge marijuana arrests and convictions
•Save us billions of $ currently spent on policing/incarcerating low level offenses, and reallocating funds for community resources
Third, his conflicts of interest prevent him from doing what’s right. Rep. Gomez takes donations from:
•Private prison companies
•Police PACs
•Big Pharma
These institutions contribute to the War on Drugs and broken windows policing — disproportionately harming people of color.
Fourth, in doing this, he’s working against our best interest. He’s sustaining the politics of the past that destroy families and whole communities. He’s ignoring the facts that cannabis has many positive health usages, and he’s benefitting off of problematic institutions.
In contrast, I support:
•Cosponsoring the STATES Act
•Cosponsoring the MORE Act
•Legislation eliminating collateral consequences from marijuana arrests
•Legislation ensuring communities affected by War on Drugs benefit
•Doing what’s right for my neighbors — not corporations
The incumbent’s history of inaction on marijuana and his willingness to take donations from harmful institutions speak volumes. He does not prioritize his community, though community should come first. Always.
