Good afternoon!

We’re here today to bring you the story of Indonesian national, Parti Liyani, who was arrested in 2016 and accused of stealing S$34,000 worth of items from the family of Liew Mun Leong (the Chairman of Changi Airport Group) in Singapore.

Parti had worked at the Liew family home as a domestic worker for 9 years from 2007 - 2016.

When she was sacked, in October 2016, she was given two hours to pack her things before being put on a flight back to Indonesia.
Parti packed a suitcase and three large boxes which were to be sent to Indonesia following her departure.

However, the Liew family never shipped the boxes and opened them instead to check the contents.

They claimed in court that they found their personal items inside.
These included used DVD players, bags, women's clothing, utensils and damaged watches and jewelry.

Parti has always maintained her innocence and says that the items were either:

1) discarded by her employer

2) given to her by the Liews or friends

3) her own belongings.
Parti has always maintained that she was sacked for refusing to continue to clean the home of Karl Liew (son of Mr. Liew).

The Liew family's deployment of Parti to Karl Liew's home could have been reported to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
Parti was arrested when she flew back to SG in 2016 to look for a new sponsor.

She spent a total of 3 years and 9 months awaiting her fate at the hands of the SG judicial system.

On 25 March 2019, Parti was sentenced to 26 months in prison.

She appealed the verdict.
Today, Parti was cleared of all four theft charges.

Justice Chan Seng Onn said that the Liew family may have had “an improper motive” for filing a police report after fearing that Parti would report them to MOM.
Parti’s lawyer, Anil Narain Balchandani, of Red Lion Circle who has acted for Parti pro bono throughout the trial: “[the judge] found that there was collusion or conspiracy”.
Parti will stand trial for a fifth charge under Section 35 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act for "fraudulently obtaining" 18 items including 6 Ezlink cards.
Parti Liyani: “I have fought these charges because I deserve justice and a fair verdict.”

Parti's lawyer, Anil, plans to file an application for compensation that could run to tens of thousands of dollars.

Parti has been living in Singapore and unable to work since her arrest on 2 December 2016.
Statement from Parti Liyani at the end of a long day and a long road to justice.

She thanks her supporters and legal team.

"I thought that there was no way I would win and beat these four charges. I thought I would get a year in jail or more."
