The Russian PeaceData operation was a disinfo pyramid scheme. It tried to attract freelance writers, and once it had them, their output was its cover to try and attract more.

@donie interviews one of the victims here.
Here's the same freelance writing in the @guardian.

The fact that PeaceData managed to sign up authentic but unwitting writers with verified accounts "appeared to legitimize the operation" to those who came later.
Some of these freelancers also said that PeaceData asked them to get their articles republished anywhere they had contacts.

Leveraging their contacts and audiences as well as their credibility.
