Watched the A Librarian’s Preview of Exciting New Manga by librarians Helen Lutke & Danny Thien Le. I missed the first couple minutes so I might’ve missed a title or two, but here’s what they discussed in certain categories #VCRX
Think I have some quibbles *stares at when they talked about Blood on the Tracks* but they had Witch Hat Atelier on this list so that’s an automatic success lol
I believe it will be on CRX’s VOD, just wasn’t up yet.
“How has work changed since the start of the pandemic?” Ajani Oloye: Technically can come to the office but otherwise everything’s still remote. Basically a work rhythm has been established after these six months
Watched the Manga Industry Roundtable panel. Some notes:
- Not surprisingly sales fell due to COVID-19, but did see increases, especially digitally, over the past 3 months
- Backlist titles did better during this period; new manga had tons of trouble (esp. with no anime tie-in)
- Masaaki Shimizu (general manager and publisher at SQENIX Books/Manga) did note for them since they're new, COVID-19 has left them in a difficult spot
- (At least for DENPA) International sales were a big assist during this time
- Erik Ko (chief of ops at UDON) said the Manga Classics books "over the last three months saw a 10x surge of digital sales through the libraries and school channels", made as much revenue in three months as the whole lifetime of this line
