I may regret sharing this in this context—but for all the “what is ‘critical race theory’ and why is it trending?” folks, my Intro to CRT course from 2017 is still online, with most articles/books linked in PDF. blogs.brown.edu/amst-2220j-s01…
Disclaimers: It’s slightly out of date, and I teach it a bit differently now. But the core texts/foundations of CRT remain unchanged. Much of this syllabus comes from Intro to CRT in Education at HGSE, where I was first introduced to CRT.

The church at San Gabriel Mission burned. They haven't said anything about the origins of the fire (that I've seen), but I read this article from NY Times that had me boiling. nytimes.com/2020/07/11/us/…
The entire tone of the piece is lamenting the loss of the church, and the cultural importance of the "landmark" to the town, and the only mentions of the atrocities brought by Junipero Serra and the Mission system are these lines:
"...in 2015 that the Catholic Church planned to canonize Father Serra. The announcement was met with derision by Indian historians, who blame Father Serra for the suppression of Native American culture and the premature deaths at his missions of 1000s of their ancestors."

So the interesting thing about the Land O' Lakes logo is they changed it in February. The stores haven't had the Indian for almost 2 months...and no one noticed or cared.
It's only now that articles are coming out quoting Native women about how the image was harmful and hurtful and that we're glad it's gone that non-Natives have been freaking out about it.
Seems like the problem wasn't that you were attached to the logo and it harbored nostalgia for you, the problem apparently is Native folks speaking out.
